Week 38

Less than one week until baby is due and still no real signs that labour is imminent...and I am fine with that!  Is it wrong that I am kind of relishing having a little bit of extra time to myself?  Don't get me wrong - I am so excited to meet this little one - but I kind of liked sleeping in until 10 this morning after three nights of staying up past 1 am.  I guess what I'm trying to say is, whenever he or she is ready to make their appearance, whether that's sooner or later, I'm good.  I don't have that feeling of being "so over being pregnant" and "just wanting it out".

That being said, I am very glad to say that we have our dog situation figured out now and it is a huge relief.  We said goodbye to Nina on Thursday night at my parents' house in Moose Jaw.  It was a bit tearful but a very nice way to part.  They dropped her off Friday at her new home - a ranch outside of Mortlach belonging to a lawyer friend of my mom's and her husband.  Sounds like things are going well as she sent mom an email this morning calling Nina "the most wonderful dog". I can't tell you how much that warmed my heart to know they will love her as much as we do.  House is feeling very empty while I'm home alone in the day but I know that won't last forever.  Now we can just concentrate on baby.

On Friday I did a bunch of cooking: I made a dozen meals of sweet and sour meatballs
Sweet and Sour Meatballs
and six meals of lasagna which I then froze.  On Saturday I whipped up a batch of chipit cookie dough
Mmm...cookie dough.  I didn't even eat it all in this state!
(my mom's recipe and my favourite cookies ever!) and will bake those today as well as making a double batch of vegetarian chili.  That should get us through the first while hopefully.  My mom has promised to make me some bran muffins as well and I believe Debbie and Aunty Barb may be bringing us some cooking once baby's here too -  we are so spoiled!  Speaking of spoiled - mom made Jeff his very own banana bread to bring to the hospital so that he has something good to snack on.  She's very thoughtful and he is very appreciative!

We had an amazing weekend at the Regina Folk Festival.  We bought weekend passes a few months ago just hoping that baby would hold off until then.  We went with Jocelyn and Michael and met up with Jessie and Chris and later Zerr.  It was maybe the best line up ever.  Standouts for me were Bahamas, Nomadic Massive, and Calypso Rose.  And if you've never had the experience of seeing Charles Bradley and His Extraordinaires live, it is something to behold!  Mr. Bradley is known as the "The Screaming Eagle of Soul" and his moves...oh my!  You must check out this video of him dancing!  He is a bit older than my dad but his moves made us all blush a bit I think.  I kept thinking "I wish Heather could have seen this."  Loved it!

Well this could possibly be my last post before I am a mom - stay tuned!  If it is, do know that we plan to document everything well and will share!  We just purchased a camcorder yesterday and are very excited to use it.  However it will be for before and after the birth only.  Some things are better just being in the moment.  Here is my belly this week:

38 weeks

  1. Enjoy your last days (?) as a pregnant lady!! Also, I'm so happy for you guys that you were able to find a home for Nina :-)

We didn't catch as much of the Folk Fest as you, but we were disappointed with what we saw. We really liked Nomadic Massive, but we didn't see the other ones you listed as standouts - gaaah! Feist nearly put us to sleep.
