Week 18

We left the cold and snow on Tuesday to head down to San Tan Valley, Arizona for a week.  We have enjoyed our time here with Ward and Deb and have felt our spirits coming back as we thaw out a bit.  I think baby must have been all curled up from the cold because when we got here there seemed to be quite a bit of movement.  I think he or she was finally stretching out in the warmth of the sun!  Debbie took me shopping for lots of new maternity clothes so I should be pretty set.  We have loved just sitting in the sun in the backyard and going for runs (Jeff) and walks (Alaina) - taking as much advantage of the weather as we can.  Here is the belly pic, taken in the beautifully landscaped backyard at Ward and Deb's place.  Thanks to them for the awesome winter break!

Sorry this is short but I really want to go back outside!

Week 17

We were back to see Dr. Lett for our monthly checkup and all is going swimmingly!  I have not put on any weight since my last checkup (which she was happy with, given I had just come back from buffet heaven last time she weighed me).  My blood pressure continues to make Jeff jealous.    When it came time to listen for the heartbeat she had a bit of trouble finding it at first.  I just laid there frozen until that wonderful whoomp, whoomp started ringing out.  Such relief again!  Baby's heartbeat was 162 bpm.  Still the best sound I've ever heard in my life.  As it turns out, she was having trouble finding the heartbeat because I am carrying low.  But the doctor says I am just a perfect size for how far along I am.

We are headed to Phoenix, AZ on Tuesday and I don't know if I have ever needed a vacation more in my life.  I am really looking forward to shopping for maternity wear with Debbie and enjoying the sun with Ward!

Thanks to everyone who's been saying that I look good and have a pregnancy glow - it makes me feel so much better and not just like a blotchy blimp!

Happy St. Patrick's Day everyone!  Here is this week's bump picture...

Week 16

I am pretty sure I have started to feel a few little flutters in my belly!  I wasn't sure - thought maybe it was just gas bubbles or something but now I am quite sure it is the little one.  The movement is on the left (of course!) and I tend to feel it most when I am sitting still and concentrating.  Pretty amazing feeling!

In other news, I have gone to prenatal Aquacize at the YMCA for the last two weeks.  The movement really feels good but I feel like a bit of a fraud as all the other moms-to-be seem to be at least 30 weeks along.  Then there's me with my little pooch.  Speaking of which, I presented to a bunch of single moms on Wednesday night and they all were so excited for me but couldn't believe that I was already 16 weeks - they thought my belly was small.  Seems huge to me!  It's amazing the instant connection you have with moms-to-be or moms just by telling them you're expecting.  I am working to house a young lady who is also expecting and we have very much enjoyed comparing notes.  My being also pregnant seemed to put her instantly at ease.  Just so you know - she is CONVINCED I am having a boy.

Belly has been stretching lately but it still doesn't look much bigger to me.  Here it is for this week (wearing a new shirt picked out by the lovely Devon, which she and Dan sent to me for my birthday!  Thanks pregnant-lady whisperer!  I love it!)

Week 15

I was away at a workshop in Saskatoon part of this week and took the opportunity to do a little shopping.  I went to Motherhood Maternity in the Midtown Plaza and picked out a pair of skinny jeans and three tops.  Since my belly still isn't very big the jeans are falling down a bit but they are so much more comfortable that my other jeans.  I was pleased to discover that there is some decent maternity wear out there!

On Saturday Jeff and I decided to go check out Welcome Wagon's Baby Shower event.  There were several booths that got us thinking...French Immersion...Kindermusik...RESPs!  Check out the amount of information and swag we got!

After that we went to Toys 'R Us to see if there were any good bargains at their Babyfest sale.  We found ourselves thoroughly overwhelmed thinking about what we need and what seems unneccessary.  We left buying the cutest mobile ever - bumble bees!

We also got a matching wall plaque.

Finally we made a purchase just for me - a Snoogle.  This is a special body pillow for pregnancy that came highly recommended by one of the workshop organizers.  I slept with it last night and it was pretty comfy, though it will take some getting used to as it is so big!

Last but not least - here is the bump this week!
