This has been a bit of a rough week. I was at home for two days with the flu - my everything ached so badly! I ended off the week with my 31st birthday and a wonderful meal out with Jeff at the Creek in Cathedral Bistro. Mom and Dad brought me back my first maternity dress from Montreal and so I wore it to work yesterday - let the belly rubbing begin!
Trying to dress this bump is becoming a bit of a challenge and there is hardly anywhere to buy maternity clothes in this city! Oh well - here is the bump this week!

Feeling more confident...
Last week, on February 13, Jeff and I got a lovely early Valentines Day present: the chance to listen to the sound of our baby's heartbeat! We had an appointment with our OB/GYN Dr. Lett and she brought in the Doppler machine to listen for the heartbeat. All my tensions melted away when I heard that glorious thump, thump, thump! The heartbeat sounded so strong and healthy. It was truly music to my ears.
This great news was coupled with the fact that I have only gained four lbs in the first trimester (normal gain is between three and eight lbs). The doctor was even more impressed when I told her that we had just gotten back from an all-inclusive resort and a week of indiscriminate eating!
The trip to the doctor really started to make this pregnancy seem real. I am also starting to show just a tiny bit. These things combined to give us the confidence to actually go out and buy some things for the baby. Not much, but Zellers is having a closing out sale and so we ended up buying a few things that were a good price. We got: some really good bottles, a fancy rotating snack bowl, crib bedding, and...the thing we were most excited about...a lovely wooden red wagon! I had lots of images of pulling a toddler around in the wagon on a summer evening.
Crib bedding - not only gender neutral and cute but it's a nursery rhyme too! Hey Diddle Diddle...
Little red wagon.
I also invested in a Bella Band. I am still getting used to how it feels but at least it will allow me to wear my skinny jeans for a few more weeks!

We're having a baby!
>We are expecting our first child on August 18, 2013 and we are so excited! We wanted to do a blog to keep everyone up to date on what's happening and to share pictures: first of progress and second of baby. We will try and post a weekly "baby bump" picture too. Here are the first two...
Lots of love,
Jeff and Alaina (and little one on the way!)
